Volunteers Needed

ARES LAX offers many opportunities to volunteer for public service. Volunteering is not only fun, it’s a great way to sharpen your operating skills, or, if you have a special interest, to pursue it as part of a group. If you’ve never tried it, you’ll be surprised at the satisfaction you’ll derive from serving the community. Here are some of the areas actively looking for volunteers.

Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES)

Emergency communications “when all else fails.” When manmade or natural disaster strikes, here’s your chance to be an active responder to the crisis. For more information, see our ARES section.

National Traffic System (NTS)

Join regularly scheduled traffic nets to pass traffic locally, nationally and around the world. Take part in one of amateur radio’s oldest services. More information here.

ARRL Volunteer Examiner

It’s easy and it’s fee. Go to the ARRL’s web site for more information or download the Volunteer Examiner Manual.

Skywarn

Be a spotter for the National Weather Service. Provide vital real-time observational data to the Los Angeles/Oxnard forecast office during inclement weather activity. For more information or to register, check out the espotter web site.

Infragard

Help protect the nation’s security as part of this FBI-managed watchdog group. Recommended particularly for ARES members. Full information on our ARES page.

Don't See Anything You Like?

We still may have something to interest you. Send us message and tell us what your interests are. We might find just the spot for you.

Public Service Honor Roll

Most volunteer activities give you credit toward being acknowledged in the ARRL Public Service Honor Roll, which appears monthly in QST. For more information, check out our PowerPoint presentation.
